Fellowships
- Symbiosis International (Deemed University) encourages Ph D candidates to enrol as Full Time Ph D students.
- The scheme is open to competent and qualified candidates to undertake full time advanced studies and research leading to Ph.D. degree under the University
- SIU also encourages independent fellowship holders (CSIR/DBT/DST/etc) to apply. Scientists with funded projects are welcome to be associated.

Pre-Ph.D. Coursework
Pre-Ph.D. coursework is an important matter of concern for new students who wish to enrol on the Ph.D. programme of SIU.
The following important points be noted.
- M. Phil. degree holders having Research Methodology with B+ grades are exempted from coursework. The decision on exemption from coursework shall be conveyed to individual Deans as per the rulebook after ascertain the eligibility.
- The students who have completed Ph. D from other Universities shall be exempted from coursework.
- Those who have completed coursework in other Universities and taken fresh admissions in SIU Ph. D. Programme are not eligible for exemption from coursework.
- The admitted students have to complete the coursework in the assigned duration (generally between Sept to May every year). The exact scheduling will be communicated by the respective Deans.
- As per UGC norms, the coursework has to be conducted in face-to-face mode and on weekdays.
- The coursework of 16 credits is compulsory as per the UGC norms. Ensure the requisite attendance (min 75 %) and completion of assignments as per the given time schedule communicated by the concerned Deans. Minimum passing marks are 55 % in each subject. Refer to the Ph.D Rulebook for details.

Eligibility and Reservation Policy
A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme must satisfy any one of the following eligibility requirements:

A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's
degree programme or A 2-year/4-semester master's degree programme after a 3-year
bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master's degree
by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or
its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent
qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and
accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority,
established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory
authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the
educational institution. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed
for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled.
Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled. -
Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate
or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or
equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an
assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an
authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other
statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards
of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D.
programme.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently-Abled.
Note:
International candidates (NRIs, Foreign Nationals and PIOs who have obtained Master's degree
from foreign universities) are required to qualify IELTS with 6.5 score or IELA Test (Band
3) of SIU ELTIS, an equivalent test for English language proficiency. Please note that
candidates holding Professional Qualifications/ Diplomas/ Post Graduate Diplomas/ Any other
qualifications will need to submit the proof of equivalence of the qualifications to
master's Degree from a Statutory Bodies like UGC/AICTE/BCI/MCI etc

How to Apply
- The process of application is completely online. The candidate is not required to submit any hard copy of application to the University.
- The applications will be live by the end of April every year and open till end of May every year. The University will put up the advertisement on the website of SIU, SCRI and all constituents of the University.
- Check their eligibility as per the Ph.D. Rulebook. Master's degree in relevant discipline is compulsory. Experience is optional.
- Candidates not possessing a Master's Degree awarded by the Universities shall be required to produce equivalence of qualifications from statutory bodies as per the UGC norms/ Ph. D. Rule Book. Please note that equivalence of degree and approval of the institute/ programme are not the same.
- Keep a soft copy of all the documents ready for uploading.
- Note that the University will not be responsible if you miss out any milestone of the admission process including the postal delays.

- The test would be conducted in an online mode using a safe browser provided by the University.
- Candidates with NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil. or are UGC/CSIR/ICMR DBT/RGNF/MANF/DST Inspire & NBHM Fellows, are exempted from the entrance test during the validity period of the certificate/award. However, such candidates have to mandatorily appear for the personal interview.
- The personal interactions will be conducted through video conferencing mode if they have qualified the entrance test/exempted from the entrance test.
- For the Faculty of Law, Management, Media and Communication and Education, there are no sub-streams and hence one test paper aimed at testing comprehensive knowledge of the Faculty would be applicable.
- For other Faculties (i.e., FoCS, FoMHS, FoMC, FoHSS), subject-specific tests would be applicable.
- For the Faculty of Engineering, subject-specific tests as mentioned below would be
applicable:
- (A) Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electronics & Telecom, Computer Science & IT, Robotics & Automation, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning)
- (B) Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Geospatial Sciences)
Note: As per the Norms of the Indian Nursing Council (INC), the entrance test for Nursing would consist of one test section for 90 Marks.
